Hotel Plagött through the centuries
The village of Plagött near the St.Valentino was founded around the 13th century. With the tourist boom in Merano, at the beginning of the 20th century, some valley residents had the idea to found a ski club, which in 1905 was the first in South Tyrol. Thereafter, an association for the renovation of the village was established . Thanks to the splendid position in the center of the valley of the upper Venosta valley, San Valentino quickly became famous among the travelers and became the ski resort of the spa town of Merano. Because of the difficulties of access to the village, the first wave of tourism did not involve Plagött. This is why agricolture and farming were the only livelihood until the late postwar period.
The senior, Herrmann Blaas (born in 1933) has always worked as a child the parents' farm, thinking of becoming independent one day in the catering industry. Tirelessly along with other local pioneers he pledged to build a ski lift to the St.Valentino hut until it was built in 1961. This paved the way for opening a hotel directly on the track of the skiing slope.
In 1966 Hermann was lucky enough to marry Mary. A lottery ticket, as Mary was an excellent cook. In the same year, the construction of the mountain hotel began. Even today, Hermann shines when he recalls how he and his wife welcomed in the snowy January 1964, the first guests at Plagött. For the hospitality and the excellent cuisine, the hotel was well attended both in winter and summer. With the birth of the three sons Magnus, Daniel and Tobias, the family's happiness became complete.
Over time, our home has become a popular place and strong demand has forced a further expansion. This however was not authorized and so it was decided to build a new house in front of the old building, which is today the Hotel Plagött. In 1980, the first guests were welcomed into the building which was rewarded for the innovative construction several times. The old inn until the early 1990s was used as an annex of the main structure.
Already at 15years of age, Daniel knew he wanted to take the hotel one day. With the same passion and dedication that his mother has, he learned to cook. After several stages at the most prestigious restaurants in South Tyrol, he returned to his native country. Father of two daughters after the well-deserved retirement of Hermann and Maria, he assumed in 1999 the role of landlord. Soon after, the first major renovation works began.
Even today, he is always looking for new challenges, both in the kitchen and in the ever-expanding hotel's quality, togethar with is partner Silke.
We like to point out that even today Hermann has never lost, over the decades, the joy of mountain farming, and he looks after it very keenly.
Over time renewed and changed but remained faithful to its principles ….
